OCCUPATIONAL DERMATOLOGY RESEARCH AND EDUCATION CENTRE


The aims of the Occupational Dermatology Research and Education Centre (ODREC) are:

- To create a multi-disciplinary research team for the study of
occupational skin disease (OSD)
- To obtain data on the incidence of OSD
- To undertake intervention strategies in high-risk areas such
as hairdressing, and to evaluate the effectiveness of these
- To organize professional development in this area for
dermatologists, occupational physicians, general
practitioners, and other occupational health personnel
- To train interested specialists in this area, which requires
knowledge and expertise in a number of disciplines such as
toxicology, public health, understanding of work practices,
occupational hygiene and understanding of relevant
occupational health and safety legislation
- To be a catalyst and knowledge resource for the initiation
and development of awareness campaigns which address
the issues of occupational skin disease.
